Ghana's Independence Celebration: All the Action is in Takoradi!

If you're in Ghana, and you're wondering where to be for the Independence celebration (between 5 and 6th March) then 'no shakes' ASABAAKO is the 'newest thing in town'.
What makes it even more interesting, is the fact that, all the fun and action would be happening away from the capital city (Accra)! Takoradi will be bursting with fun and I'm looking forward to it... ;)

ASABAAKO! translates as "One Dance" in Akan (a local dialect in Ghana) - in essence, the coming together of people to dance 'the same dance' in unity. The festival will feature 3 days of live music and DJs on Busua Beach, in the Western Region of Ghana.

Main Event: Sundays 6TH March, Independence Day, Featuring some of Ghana's favorite 'culture inclined' music artiste.

TALIB KWELI
WANLOV THE KUBOLOR
YAA PONO
...and others yet to confirm

It's gonna be fun...away from the capital; Accra. I'm getting ready to go and get some more of Wanluv the Kubolor into me!! ''This is very Kokonsa''

Gambia's 46th independence celebration

The Republic of the Gambia recently celebrated its 46th independence anniversary on the 18th of February 2011 and as part of the celebrations the king of Ndaga Youssou Ndour was invited to play throughout the weekend... The funds raised during the occasion would be used to help support in the operation 'save a baby' and women's empowerment initiative. Such commitment in our souls can change the world because it can improve and change lives in the Gambia and the souls be heard by the universe.

Nigeria is Definately Pushing the Boundaries for West Africa

Mr Endowed is not necessarily D'banj's best work, so on a positive side, if you like it, be sure to know you'll definately love most of his other stuff. Although, D'Banj has Definately pushed the barriers by taking West African grove across seas, and this time it's the remix of Mr Endowed featuring Snoop Dogg, what more to say but to get up off your seat and dance to this........

On another note, we would also like to highlight JJC who brought us the classic "We Are Africans", has come out with a song that needs to be number one, "Say Yes" a beautiful track about a gentle proposing to his lady and kindly requesting she says yes!! Please enjoy yourselves but not too much. Feel free to find these and more on the www.misswestafrica.com on the playlist below. If we get in full force with supporting these artists and the more of them, we will encounter the day where African music are listed on European TV charts.

OK Magazine Catches Shireen Benjamin In Action

I guess as humble as Shireen is with fighting her cause for Africa every now and then she gets caught by celebrity News Papers and magazines such as OK Magazine as so did happen recently. Shreen, as well as a long list of celebrities were invited to a fundraising event called the Street Child of Sierra Leone. Shireen as well as many other managed to raise a whopping £300,000 for the people affected by the post Sierra Leone war where many were mutilated. We hope Shireen can encourage more and more people to support such causes. Make sure you pick up your copy for support, and see if you can recognise some faces.
