English: Shireen Benjamin, the former Miss West Africa International has continued her great charity work since passing the crown to our new Miss West Africa International Vanny Reis in December. On Friday 27th April she was invited by West Africa Relief to open the Phoenix Resource Centre, West African Relief Eco-Aid Supply Depot, Northampton along with Louise Mensch MP.

For those who don't know, Shireen Benjamin took it upon herself in her second year as a queen to dedicate her time to promoting African fashion after spending her first year spreading the awareness of HIV. The African Music for Fashion campaign, is a campaign directed at African musicians who are growing very fast in the international scene. It encourages them to utlise their growth, lyrics and popularity to also promote African fashion, instead of Gucci and Prada. Shireen also launched African Fashion Day which is the 1st saturday of every August but reminds every one that everyday is a day to make an effort with African fashion. Ghana Floods Kills Lives and Take Homes!

Enlgish: Shireen Benjamin, will like to share her condolences with the families that lost lives in the recent flooding in Ghana.

"For those who don't know, there was heavy raining in Ghana lasting seven hours from Tuesday night until Wednesday morning. This resulted in the floods which have so far taken four lives and destroyed many homes. According to officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation

Thousands of people have lost their home, many of whom are seen outside their homes retrieving furniture, household items and wares, as well as other valuables from the waters that appear to be receding.

A lot of valuable property has been lost in the floods that have also disrupted some businesses and caused pain and distress to many residents across the two cities.

At some points, residents in some areas had to climb on roof tops as they called for assistance. Floods in some areas are at window level and there are fears that with the waters moving southwards into the sea, the worst is yet to come.

We ask of everyone to say a prayer, and for those that know any charities or organisations that are supporting the people, please send us the details so we can post it up for every concerned person around the world to know how to contribute. "Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas, il était lourd pleut au Ghana pendant sept heures à partir de mardi soir jusqu'à mercredi matin. Il en est résulté des inondations qui ont jusqu'ici pris quatre morts et détruit de nombreuses habitations. Selon les responsables de la gestion des catastrophes nationales Organisation

Des milliers de personnes ont perdu leur maison, beaucoup sont en dehors de leurs foyers récupérant des éléments de meubles de maison et articles, ainsi que d'autres objets précieux dans les eaux qui semblent être en recul.

Un grand nombre de biens précieux a été perdu dans les inondations qui ont également perturbé certaines entreprises et a causé la douleur et de détresse pour de nombreux habitants à travers les deux villes.

À certains endroits, les habitants de certaines régions a dû grimper sur les toits comme ils appelaient à l'aide. Les inondations sont au niveau des fenêtres et l'on craint que les eaux déplaçant vers le sud dans la mer, le pire est encore à venir.

Milhares de pessoas perderam suas casas, muitos estão fora de suas casas recuperar itens de mobiliário, utensílios domésticos e louças, bem como outros objetos de valor das águas que parecem estar se afastando.

Um monte de valiosa propriedade foi perdida nas enchentes que podem ter alterado algumas empresas e causou dor e aflição a muitos moradores nas duas cidades.

Em alguns pontos, moradores em algumas áreas teve que subir em telhados como eles chamavam de assistência. Inundações são a nível da janela e há temores de que com as águas que se deslocam para o sul para o mar, o pior ainda está para vir.

September September September … eeemmmmm – Just a few months to Christmas and the spirit of charity is in the air. Modeling just like so many other professions isn’t just a job but it is something some people are naturally born with. Shireen Benjamin is a 23 year old Sierra Leoneon who was crowned the Miss West Africa Queen in 2009 at the Miss West Africa International finale in London. Shireen is a great supporter of charities and has been using her role as a Queen to highlight some certain issues in West Africa that need changing and she continuously promotes togetherness as a tool towards a better continent. Shireen is also a graduate from University though modeling is her number one passion. Shireen hits our cover this September with all thanks going to the MWA crew. OK Magazine Catches Shireen Benjamin In Action

I guess as humble as Shireen is with fighting her cause for Africa every now and then she gets caught by celebrity News Papers and magazines such as OK Magazine as so did happen recently. Shreen, as well as a long list of celebrities were invited to a fundraising event called the Street Child of Sierra Leone. Shireen as well as many other managed to raise a whopping £300,000 for the people affected by the post Sierra Leone war where many were mutilated. We hope Shireen can encourage more and more people to support such causes. Make sure you pick up your copy for support, and see if you can recognise some faces.

"As Miss West Africa, and behalf of the Miss West Africa ltd international organisation, I will love to wish everyone Merry Christmas and a happy new year. I hope you all take this moment to enjoy yourselves and enjoy every fortunate aspect of your lives, but even more so please be considerate of those less fortunate than yourself whether you are in the dry season orthe cold winter season, and if it doesn't hurt, please do give a little whenever and however you can, be it a charity or struggling beggar.

Let's end this year with blessings for Africa and begin the new year with resolutions that promise a great future for the whole of Africa. In saying this I would really like to wish peace upon the people of Cote D'Ivoire and hope the true president of the Ivorian people's choice reigns, as opposed to the unwanted imposed powers. Let's all bring light to this issue and read between the lines in every story presented in the media and unite our concerns around their well being despite the language barriers. Have a great new year and Happy Holidays, and remember always stay positive and optmistic"
