1st Runner-up was ZALIA MAIGA (MWA Mali)
and the New Miss West Africa International is MARIA SAWANEH (MWA Germany, representing Gambia)

Hawa Kamara is crowned Miss West Africa Sierra Leone 2012

In a close exciting contest in Freetown tonight, Hawa Kamara took the crown to become Miss West Africa Sierra Leone 2012. The student from Freetown will go and compete in Cape Verde for the Miss West Africa International, the competition where Sierra Leone won the first two years and came third in last years competition in Gambia.

Stella helps raise breast cancer awareness for Sierra Leone charity

The amazing Stella Bangura, Miss West Africa Sierra Leone has done alot of great charity work during her reign, and in June she attended the Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation fundraising gala in Freetown, where she spoke passionately about the cause and the work Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation are doing.

The Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation organised the fundraising and cultural gala with the theme "Building a System on Cancer" as Sierra Leone has no breast cancer or cancer facilities or units and there is a high rate of ignorance about the deadly disease.

Stella Bangura speaks passionately about her causes for International Women's Month

English: March is International Women's Month,the global celebration of the economic, political and social achievements of women, which Stella Bangura, Miss West Africa Sierra Leone, and the Miss West Africa International 2nd Runner-up has done alot of great charitable work for, and is very concerned with.
Here she tells us about the 2 new videos she has made to raise awareness of Female Genital Mutilation, and also the free breast check-up organised by Thinking Pink breast Cancer Foundation, which she is helping with in Sierra Leone at the end of the month.

"As we celebrate the beauty of being a women during International Women's Month, please remember to lend your voice to decry Female Genital Mutilation in our society. It is an inhumane act that not only violates our rights but ruins our self esteem and leads to death in a number of cases. Please share the word and remember that no woman should be subjected to such acts."

Stella announces the date for Miss West Africa Sierra Leone 2012

English: First Face International in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs in partnership with ‘Thinking Pink Foundation’ announced on Tuesday 17th that they will be organising Miss West Africa Sierra Leone 2012 to select the candidate that will represent Sierra Leone at the 2012 Miss West Africa International beauty pageant.

Miss Stella Bangura who recently represented Sierra Leone at the Miss West Africa International pageant in The Gsmbia where she was second runner-up thanked First Face International and all her sponsors. She said that had it not been for their timely intervention, “I would not have participated in the pageant and I would not have become a winner”. She described the contest as very challenging and she had to put up a brave fight, but noted that it was her courage, confidence and style that enabled her to clinch the third position. She also revealed that she will be engaging herself in giving back to the young people by building their capabilities so that they too can go out and display their talents and bring pride to the nation.

Speaking to members of the press and TV present, Madam Victoria Saidu Kamara, the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs disclosed that she did not find any structure in the Ministry to handle beauty pageants, but that she is doing everything within her power to change that situation. She encouraged all organisations with interest in pageantry shows to ensure they go through the Ministry once a body has been established to handle that aspect.

She described Miss Stella Bangura as a role model to Sierra Leonean young ladies and called on young talented girls to follow in her footsteps by coming forward to take part in the 2012 Miss West Africa Sierra Leone beauty pageant which will be hosted in Freetown in April. She commended First Face International for their positive move that ensured the participation of Sierra Leone in last year’s sub continental show in Banjul an effort she pointed out, that was aimed at promoting the culture and beauty of Sierra Leone.

Statements were also made by sponsors of First Face International including; SN Brussels and Thinking Pink Foundation. It was then announced that the grand finale for the Miss West Africa Sierra Leone pageant will take place on the 21st April 2012.

Minister of Tourism says She is Very Impressed with Stella Bangura! Miss West Africa Sierra Leone!

English: Miss West Africa is making history with some of Africa's biggest diplomats. The Sierra Leone Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Mrs. Victoria Saidu has said she is very much impressed with Miss West Africa Sierra Leone Stella Bangura. She made these remarks at a fund raising dinner over the weekend at the Light House Hotel. She went on to say that she has put measures in place to ensure that Stella Bangura gets first class hospitality in the Gambia for the Miss West Africa Pageant. She maintained that Stella Bangura has the potential to bring the crown home as Pageant is not all about beauty but speaking as well. “My Ministry and Government are strongly behind her,” she said.

She boasted that Sierra Leone has been turning heads in the world of beauty referring to a Sierra Leonean born Natasha Beckley who she said ranked among the 10 beauties in the world a feat that has which made her to win lots of international contracts.

“Tourism industry needs publicity like this, to tell the world that Sierra Leone is open for business. We want to compete in all aspects in the world,” she pointed.

English: It was an amazing night for Miss West Africa Sierra Leone's fundraiser, and certainly a night to be remembered in Sierra Leone. With dignatories from the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, the Principle of the School of Nursing, Estha Micheal singing the National Anthem of Sierra Leone at the opening of the event, plus a special appearance from Eliza Pajibo the reigning Miss West Africa Liberia, who travelled over for the occasion, the night was a fantastic success for Stella as she prepares for the International Final next month.
