Video: Rick Ross raps with Nigerian Artists P-Square - Beautiful Onyinye (Review)

So here is the new video by P-Square featuring Rick Ross. We were going to blog this earlier in the day, then watched the video and thought, no we won't, then later we decided maybe we would but with an editors perspective. The final decision was mix of the fact we do love to support anything that takes African culture further but then to what extent.

By this, the issue is, Do we need more videos of men in Yachts with women walking around with champagne bottles and foreign designer wear? This is not what gave P-Square their international status, in fact the artist that protray this, real of false, are hardly even selling records. It is so early 90s, boring and played out. With the exception of the good music playing, the video was not entycing. in some way it actually felt worst than seeing this from the constructed hip hop culture, because here you are listening to the natural afro beats whilst seeing something that is so foreign.

most of those abroad have seen this a million times, the question is would this grab their interest, or would it have grabbed their interest more if being introduced to something new. In most of these cases the artists have very little say in the directing of the videos and are mainly musicians as far as the art goes. We wish P-Square all the best but if not them, we hope other emerging African musicians do not go down the long winded path of bringing foreign culture home, when instead should be taking African culture abroad such as the likes of Angelique Kidjo and more. Enjoy the video below. Also more good news, they are now signed onto Akon's record label Konvict music, another West African whom we are also proud of. Overall, great song with beautiful content.

Boko Haram Strikes Back! 11 Dead, Many More Injured!!!

Once again another church has been attacked, actually two churches. The mere fact of writing this article is even exhausting.

Gunmen, yesterday, attacked a church in Jos and Biu town in Borno State, killing five people and injuring several others. Also, this morning monday, a suicide bomber drove into the auditorium of Christ Chosen Church, along Rukuba Road in Jos North LGA, during worship hours, in a bomb-laden car which exploded, killing no fewer than 10 worshippers and over 60 critically injured. In Biu, gunmen invaded the EYN Church and opened fire on the worshippers. Many of the worshippers were said to have been killed while others received various degrees of injuries.

Apparantly, the Jama'atu Ahlis Sunnati Lidda'awati Wal Jihad also known as Boko Haram yesterday said its members were responsible for the suicide attack on a Church in Jos, Plateau State as well as the shooting of worshipers in another Church in Biu, Borno State.

Last week a nigerian lady from Mabushi, Abuja expressed her thoughts about Boko Haram to the Miss West Africa organisation via skype stating "Most of us don't believe all this that is going on, Boko Haram used to be a respectful group here. We believe what is going on is by foreign companies in order to interfere in Nigeria now that our economy is growing. How can an organisation claim it is fighting against the government for the people, yet spend half it's time killing the people. A lot of us here are muslims, we don't do this kind of stuff. It is not real at all. Even on the internet there is more information that this group is not real, because we have never seen these killers before!"

She continued further in the conversation "if you watch the news and someone translates what they say to you, you will see these guys are not even smart enough to put meaning to their objectives yet they are smart enough to out do the law and make bombs! Also let us not forget their attacks on the people only began when we were standing up against the removal of the oil subsidiary. Now with all the Boko Haram this issue has been swept under the carpet, making those who looked like enemies of the people, now look like heroes. Further more, the Court turns down Nigeria oil protest case in the Niger Delta!.....Who ever is doing this and getting these people to kill Nigerians, we are not fools if there is something going on these days then it is the people who want our oil and don't want to see us grow" (Quote copied and pasted exactly as in conversation, with a few spelling and gramma corrections)

Following her quote, The US Supreme Court on Monday 23rd April, declined to take up an appeal by 19 Nigerians seeking to invoke a US anti-torture law to sue oil giant Chevron over deaths in the Niger Delta. A spilling by Shell that ended up taking the lives of many Nigerians. This was after the Nigerian government release stories that the head figures of Boko Haram had been killed.

On behalf of this blog we can not confirm how true her statements are but it is definitely something to think about. It is a very sad incidence and may the dead victims rest in peace, most importantly we wish the best upon their families.

Nigerian Footballer Kidnapped, 150,000 euros Ransom for Christian Obodo

Family of Italian team Christian Obodo confirmed he was kidnapped today in Warri, southern Nigeria by unknown gunmen on his way to visit a friend.

Obodo was for several years a Nigeria international. Last season, he played on loan at Lecce from Serie A side Udinese. Lecce were relegated to Serie AB on May 13 after finishing third from bottom of Italy's top flight.

Obodo's brother, Kenneth Obodo, who is also a footballer in Italy and is currently in Nigeria, was quoted by Italian news agency ANSA as saying: "Christian is fine. We are in touch with the kidnappers, who want some money.

"We can't give them more than 100,000 euros ($125,000). Unfortunately these things happen in our country."

His brother-in-law, Obidike Okechukwu, was quoted by ANSA as saying that the kidnappers had asked for a ransom of 150,000 euros.

On behalf of the Miss West Africa team, we hope these cockroaches don't taint the name of the ever growing, business and tourist orientated country of Nigeria that has developed in all aspects of economic growth. Justice will be served may they receive their money or not. We wish the best for Christian Obodo.

NO MALARIA IN AFRICA; Cuba Vs.

English:
Do you like Malaria? No one likes it. This is why Cuba is working with West African countries to eliminate it. But this is even greater news than just eliminating Malaria. Why do we say this? Read on and find out.

In a statement, West Africa countries said on April 25, 2012 that the collaboration is to elimination mosquito larvae through the spraying of biolarvicides on their habitats, a product of LABIOFAM S.A. made in of Cuba. ECOWAS and Cuba promised to end Malaria in West Africa by 2015.

Under the agreement, the statement said Cuba “agreed to continue to engage bilaterally with Member States, particularly Ghana, Nigeria and Burkina Faso” before engaging with other West African countries.

All parties, have agreed to import the product (biolarvicide) from Cuba for use in these three countries during the first phase, then in other Member States, followed by local production in Ghana and Nigeria and then Cote d’Ivoire between 2015 and 2016.

Now coming back to why this is greater news than just eliminating Malaria, 1/ It will create more jobs in the African communities. and 2/ The “richest man in the world,” Microsoft’s Bill Gates, recently announced that he was making a $10 billion donation towards finding vaccines to prevent some of the world’s worst diseases. And rumours that about $1 billion of BIll Gates donation/tax write-off is for research to find a vaccine to prevent malaria. However, not by African doctors or researchers.

Malaria is a parasite-based disease noted for its variety and quick development of resistance to medication. Any “vaccine,” if even a billion dollars would have a limited lifetime and new, patented medications would have to be bought by Africa’s poor every few years.

Eritrea in Africa, has reduced malaria mortality by 85 percent in the last seven years simply using basic public health methods. By distributing pesticide treated mosquito nets and organizing the pesticide retreatment every three months of mosquito nets. By habitat eradication. And by community medical clinics for immediate treatment.

So “donating” a billion dollars to develop a malaria “vaccine” could turn into tens of billions of dollars in drug sales in Africa alone, and Bill Gates, through his drug company investments, will quietly pocket more from African countries. So the question is what is Bill Gates vaccines about? Financial exploitation or population reduction. This is not a rumor, Bill Gates openly says in the video on this page, that if they do a great job on Vaccines, they can reduce the world population by 15% his speech on the attempt to maintain CO2. Bare in mind his vaccines are targeted at African countries.

So our advice is be careful what is injected into your body or your child's body at the hospital, and try using safer means to prevent mosquitoes and malaria and you will have no worries with malaria ever.

New FASHION MODELS for Africa | Nouvelles MODÈLES DE MODE pour l'Afrique | Novos modelos de moda para a África

English:
Miss West Africa ltd has joined with a few model agency managers based in Africa and UK to bring you an agency for the whole of Africa. Their prime objective is to have a developed fashion agency with talented home grown models from all over Africa, whom can provide great fashion and editorial services for all clients at home and abroad.

Confidence Model Management is an extension of a UK model agency that acknowledged the great potential amongst many Ghanaian models whose modelling careers were very limited due to some of their current management status. Phil Antony states "We want to have something to push the faces of the models everywhere we can, most times we get bookings from clients outside Africa through Miss West Africa, only because they find it difficult to get a straight and direct service from some of the agencies". African fashion has great potential, but very limited organisations to regulate how companies and agencies treat models, therefore setting up an agency is not so much of a sure investment path.

At Miss West Africa we believe having the right type of agency on the ground is not so much to grab every job available to a model, this is in our interest, however it is also important to us the contribute to the safety, well-being and guidance of the models. Especially in a situation where girls are travelling from far to many places executing jobs that sometimes do not even compliment them on their travel.

Confidence Model Management took upon a soft launch online two weeks ago, and are in the planning of various launches in various countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia, Ivory Coast and more. Already two of their girls have been booked for two major campaigns and will also be participating in the soon to come Ivory Coast Fashion Week in August as well as 3 other fashion shows. Ivory Coast Fashion week is also said to be amongst the top 5 fashion weeks in Africa, which will be taking place in August the 1st to August 5th. We look forward to bringing you more fantastic images and updates on these models.
